PROGRAM OVERVIEW

In today’s VUCA world, everything is changing; from customer expectations, to the products companies offer them, and of course the supporting technology.  If we are to offer customers the kind of experience they desire, it is imperative to  create greater focus on the design of products, encompassing the entire product lifecycle, to ensure their contextual relevance and performance. Product Management thus becomes an organizational lifecycle function, which has bearing on all parts of the Organization.

As the word ‘lifecycle’ implies, product management spans all phases of a product. From strategizing and conceptualising a product, to its development, manufacturing, and marketing. While ensuring that it is in sync with market requirements, it is also important to evangelise the ‘product’ internally within the organization. Other related topics like product engineering and product development, planning customer service, planning and executing the roadmap, in terms of updates and upgrades; and finally, sun-setting the product at the appropriate time. product manager has been rightly described as being the CEO of the ‘product’. Needless to say, product management as a skill, is in very short supply, given the wide canvas of diverse (at times conflicting), tasks.

Most organizations make do with product managers who have grown into the role, from related, partial roles, such as project manager, product owner, business analyst, etc. And, there are not many formal education programs in this space. Hence, it became a necessity to groom product managers from within, by equipping them with skills across the product management spectrum.

A comprehensive program, addressing all the interdisciplinary areas will prepare product managers to take on the challenges and address the diverse needs, giving appropriate depth to each sub role, and transform the way product management is perceived within the organization, and the way the organization is perceived in the customer ecosystem.
